Lakeshore

This full-home remodel and addition made a home more functional and enjoyable for its long-time residents, and finally allowed them to enjoy the lake views they loved right from the house.

ABOUT THIS HOME

The home was built on a lake in the 1970s. It was designed by well-known Fort Collins architect Frank Vaught, but the original home didn’t take full advantage of the amazing lake views. From inside, it was hard to tell the lake was there. Now retired, Frank provided the conceptual idea for the remodel and addition to make the home more functional and enjoyable for its long-time residents, and his firm VFLA completed the design.

The home was built on a lake in the 1970s, but the original design completely ignored the amazing lake views. From inside the home, you couldn’t tell the lake was there.

We gutted the interior and built a timber frame addition on the back that extends through the wall of glass to create a covered patio, allowing the homeowners to enjoy the lake view from indoors or out. Steps lit for safety spill down to the yard below lined with a flagstone site wall to create a courtyard next to the house. The custom fireplace in the addition includes a mantel crafted from a tree harvested by the homeowner. He brought it to us, and our craftsmen prepped and installed it.

Inside the original house, we kept the aspen-motif stained glass windows but updated the finishes, including adding walnut slab stairs and an all-new kitchen with a tongue-and-groove ceiling.

The home office with custom workstation tucked away in the core of the home features large windows to the interior and exterior to enable someone working to stay connected to the rest of the house as well as the views outdoors.

Two master on-suite bedrooms allow each of the homeowners to have their own space, but both have access to the large, zero-entry shower. A secret door behind a mirror in one closet provides easy access to storage in another.
