This home takes “lakefront” to a whole new level. After constructing a mile-long driveway to reach the building site, we built the home at the tip of a spire that extends to the middle of a lake, creating a lakeview on three sides.
The majority of the home is floor-to-ceiling glass supported by a steel super structure. The glass provides a clear view of the Douglas Fir tongue-and-groove ceiling that extends seamlessly from inside out. This ceiling, supported by a roof structure that is an asymmetric hyperbolic paraboloid – translated to an undulating roof with rolling wall heights – required meticulous detailing to line up the planks on both sides of the glass.
The home is broken into two wings connected by a glass bridge. The main wing includes the main living areas, music room, his and hers offices with built-in slab work areas, and comfortable guest bedrooms. A wraparound deck takes advantage of the lake views and includes an integrated barbecue and planters built into the railing supports.
The second wing houses the master retreat with its own deck, hot tub, and Scandinavian-inspired fireplace. The open concept shower and vanity island keeps the bath open and airy – with only lake birds for neighbors, privacy isn’t a concern.
