This large, multigenerational home in Colorado built on family-owned property north of Fort Collins allows two generations to live together but retain their own privacy, space, and aesthetic, as well as meet their lifestyle needs.

ABOUT THIS HOME

In this multigenerational home, the wing for the older generation focuses primarily on main floor living. ADA-compliant features such as zero-entry showers and wide doorways and hallways will allow the owners to age gracefully in place in their home for years.

The opposite end of the home is designed for the needs of an active family. A large craft room with built-in cabinets, theater room, library, and game room built to meet the IT needs for the family’s passion for online gaming provide ample opportunity for family activities.

The owners have a large extended family and frequently host reunions, so this home is built for entertaining crowds. A large bunkroom on the younger generation’s side of the home allows cousins to room together close to the games, movies, and activities that kids enjoy while allowing the adults to have their own space. Outdoors, restaurant-quality appliances keep the food coming while the family gathers under the large, covered patio area or around the fire pit.

When it’s time to relax, the glassed-in sauna room features a built-in hot tub, dry sauna, and steam room, plus a changing room to make it easy to get ready for the chosen activity.

This multigenerational living space may be large, but it’s energy efficient. Because the home is built so tight, an energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system is needed to bring in fresh air from the outside, tempering it to match the interior temperature. The solar energy system uses Tesla Powerwall electricity storage to offset energy consumption. In-floor radiant heating throughout keeps the home snug during colder weather, and automated shades raise and lower to block or welcome the sun depending on the time of year.
